Vanessa Lim is a literary and intellectual historian of the English Renaissance. Her research takes a special interest in Shakespeare and classical rhetoric in the early modern period. Her most recent publications include ‘Polonius the Nose-Blowing Fishmonger’ (Notes & Queries 68, 2021) and “‘To be or not to be’: Hamlet’s Humanistic Quaestio’ (Review of English Studies 70, 2019). Vanessa’s ongoing book project, tentatively titled Shakespeare’s Deliberative Art, explores how Shakespeare rhetorically depicts and questions the process of moral and political decision-making in works such as Julius Caesar and Hamlet. Her broader research interests include English Renaissance literature, early modern intellectual history, and the history of early modern political thought.
