Chiyon Yu specializes in Renaissance literature, focusing on the themes of fame and reputation in 16th- and 17th- century poetry and drama within the context of English print culture. Her research explores how characters’ reputations are shaped through intertextual engagement with Classical and Medieval notions of fame. She also examines how authorship is shaped and mediated through theater, publication, and the roles of spectators and readers. Her recent publications are “Tested Virtue, Sexual Slander, and the Romance Plot in Shakespeare’s Cymbeline” (JELL 71.1, 2025), “Scenes of Hanging: Representations of Crime and Execution in Early Seventeenth-Century Broadside Ballads and Pamphlets” (Journal of Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance English Literature 34.3, 2024), “From Female Complaints to Women’s Complaints: A Critical Overview of Early Modern English Female Complaints” (In/Outside 56, 2024), and “Shamed Women and Praised Women: Establishing Male Authorial Voices in the Female Complaints of 1590s England” (Journal of Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance English Literature 33.3, 2023). Also, there will be an article issued in Studies in Philology 123.2 in 2026 on women authors’ female complaints and their publications.
