Joohee Seo specializes in 19th century American novels and African American literature, and her main interests are 19th century American literature, African American culture, slavery, and race issues. Her research focuses on the critical interrelation between race and national identity, and how that relationship is represented in various forms and modes of the novel. She is also interested in the cultural representation of blackness and race, temporality and historical writing, and contemporary African American culture. Her recent publications include “Playing White in the Dark: The Child and White Manhood in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” (American Fiction Studies, no. 27, vol. 2, 2020), and Imagining Citizenship and Domesticity in Antebellum African American Novels (Ph.D. dissertation).
